I totally agree with the fact that prior knowledge of a topic or story that the child is reading about the easier it will be for them to read. When you have knowledge comprehension comes easier. I really enjoyed the Baseball Study, it gave me a look at comprehension a whole different way.
The different types of exposures that I have learned in these chapters are amazing. There are a few of them that I am excited to use in my groups. There was a statement that stood out while reading "Students that need the most help often don't seek help." This reminds me of when I first became a TA and I asked a lot of questions and I apologized to my boss, saying that I just wanted to do the best job that I could. She told me " I am not worried about you, it is the ones that don't ask questions that I worry about.
Some of the strategies that I liked were: somebody wanted but so, KWL 2.0 chart and anticipation guides. In the small groups that I have I will have to incorporate them.
