3. Go to the Figures pgs. vi - viii and choose one figure that you will use in your instruction.  Describe the what, why, and how this figure is important and will be put into your instruction.

I love the world splash table on page 77. A word splash encourages students to predict what the text may be about by studying the words and phrases from the text. There are websites which can be used to create these. A website which could be used is wordclouds.com. This is used to assess prior knowledge on a subject. Students can also upload essays to a site in order to see what word was used the most. This can be used in all subjects and grade levels. It can be student led or teacher led. I will use this when starting a new topic to see what students may know about it. I could also use this to review topics. I love that this is visual and auditory. This can help reach a variety of learners.

Hi Emily! I love the "Word Splash" activity for studying words and phrases from a text. I've used wordclouds.com with students in the past and it was a total hit! I also like Beers' idea using wordclouds.com where students create a word cloud after writing an essay. They look at the most used words to see if they made the point they were trying to make. Thanks for sharing :)
