-Name & Summarize (a few sentences) about the chapters you read.

The Chapters that I read were 16, 17, and 19. Chapter 16 discusses the importance of reading more and more. Its main point is the increase in the individual’s word bank, decoding, fluency, knowledge, and many other important reading skills. Chapter 17 talks about how important it is for readers to feel positive and confident towards their reading, or else they will lack the ambition to read and continue furthering their skills. Chapter 19 talked about the true power that books hold. By having a variety of different books, it allows students to learn and see different things that interest them that they might not have the chance to visit in person.

- How will these impact your teaching?

These chapters will impact my teaching by making sure I make my students aware of the important skills they are developing and strengthening while they read more books and push themselves to grow as stronger readers.

-What strategies did you take away and how will you implement them into your teaching?

A very important strategy is allowing choice in reading for my students. This will hopefully create more connections and confidence in my students reading and help them be more successful.

Devin,

When I think of Chapter 16, I consider a phrase that I tell my athletes, "Practice makes it permanent". In other words the more you practice the more muscle memory you will have and it will take less effort for you to do certain things, in this case reading. I hope that with the different types of books you can get more students to find the joy and pleasure in reading.

The more our students read, the more skills they will build. The most important aspect to this is celebrating those victories no matter how small!

I agree that allowing choice in reading for students is an important strategy that can help create more connections and confidence in their reading. If the child isnt interested in the book, they won't be interested in learning the reading.
