-Name & Summarize (a few sentences) about the chapters you read.

I read Chapters 15, 16 and 17.

In chapter 15 they talked about Phonics and Phonics instruction. I found Figure 15.6 “Scaffolds for Teaching Phonics” to be very helpful! This is definitely something I will be using to support my students this year.

Chapter 16 talked a lot about the importance of reading and how it needs to be done more often. The more practice a student has the greater their background knowledge, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

Chapter 17 was one of my favorites. In this chapter it tells of the importance of confidence and positive feedback toward a reader. It is our job to get them excited about reading and building those skills.

- How will these impact your teaching?

Everything I have learned will impact my teaching in many ways. I want my students to enjoy reading no matter where they are in their journey. I plan to celebrate victories no matter how big or small to build that confidence aspect. I also plan to have my students read MORE. We will build that stamina as much as we can this year.

-What strategies did you take away and how will you implement them into your teaching?

One strategy I took away was the scaffolding phonics. I plan to use this strategy when I pull small groups of students. This helps to meet them where they are at.
