The inferences section in Ch. 6 stuck out to me. What made an impact on you in these chapters?
I have never read a book that explained all of the different ways that skilled readers make inferences. I definitely do these while I'm reading but did not really think about it. After reading chapter 6 I can now work with my students and teach them the different inferences that they can make as they read. "While skilled readers readily search for any information that will create coherence in what they are reading, less skilled readers won't do that." This statement is so important to realize as we teach the less skilled readers,
How do you respond to students “who don’t get it”? After this reading how will that shift?
I am guilty of telling my students to reread the text and asking the question "What don't you get?" After reading this I will ask questions to help the students figure out what they need help with and this will also help me to better help those "who don't get it."
Comprehension, understanding, and change is the goal of any reading. What will you do differently in your teaching after reading this section?
After reading this section I will dig deeper with students that do not get it, I will use the chart in chapter 6 to teach the different inferences that skilled readers use, also the appendixes in the back about signal words and multiple meaning words will be useful to me as well.
