The inferences section was an eye opener for me. I never really liked doing it before because I really did not understand it. Like I said before, I was taught totally different. I have learned so much about inferences and the different ways that it can be done I am looking forward to using it this school year. I have actually found myself doing more inferences when I am reading.
For the students that tell me "I don't get it" I will ask more questions on what they don't get. I will break the passage or story down into sections to direct them so they can let me know what exactly they don't understand. I can also give a better review of the story.
Rereading is a good way to help with comprehension but with my students (resource) they struggle. I will try comparing the story to something that might have happened to myself or maybe them. Also, they need to know what the words mean. The more you model the more they will understand.
