I will use Figure 9.10 on p. 150.
What: There are three main questions. (1) What surprised you? (2) What did the author think you already knew? (3) What challenged, changed, or confirmed your thinking? It is a good tool that allows students to focus on the entire text instead of answering comprehension questions throughout.
Why: It allows for a deeper understanding of the text. It will enable responsive reading. It would encourage more dialogic talk instead of monologic talk. This will be essential for my philosophy elective. I will also use it in my government and economics courses.
How: I can use the sheet and eventually use it as the leading discussion questions. I would utilize think pair share (T-P-S) during the discussions. Then finally, the conversation would move to more inquiries related to the content/topic that promote dialogic talk.
