I read Chapters 13, 14 and 15

Chapter 13 - Fluency and Automaticity.  This chapter talked about how to get a child fluency built up.  I do believe that practice, practice, and more practice is the best way.  Also a child needs to read at their level.  They cannot have fluency if they are decoding words.  This year I will also put it into play reading aloud with every group.

Chapter 14 - Spelling.  This chapter talked about the different spelling stages which I am just learning about.  This year I will be working with K-2 ELA, and have enjoyed learning how to move these little ones forward. I will be doing word sorts  and mapping for sure this year.

Chapter 15 - Phonics. This chapter is about Phonics and Phonics instruction.  Once again she has broken everything down.  With this break down on phonics everyone can be on the same page when we are discussing the title and the meanings.  One thing I did learn is that the letter W can be considered a vowel.

I work with small groups and I really want to apply a lot of these strategies with my little ones.  I have noticed that our children will  benifit more within the small groups.  The read aloud that I want to do will be so helpful.

I teach upper elementary, and I agree that small group lessons will be key for the students!
