I found many of the figures in this book to be highly important that I will utilize in my classroom, although my favorites are 9.9 and 9.10. 9.9 is the Three Big Questions Anchor Chart and 9.10 is the Three Big Questions Think Sheet. I love how the questions themselves allow students to use their thinking to learn and reflect on text. When thinking about what surprises them, what the author already thought they knew, and what changed or confirmed what they already know students are thinking to learn rather than locating answers in the text. I cannot wait to introduce this new anchor chart with the my students. I will be able to hear about what they know about text without expecting a prescribed answer. I have to admit, a lot of the questions I asked produced monologic talk while we want dialogic talk with our readers.
I used to have an anchor chart in my room like 9.9 - you will love it, I'm sure! The think sheet is also a bonus.
