Go to the Figures pgs. vi - viii and choose one figure that you will use in your instruction.  Describe the what, why, and how this figure is important and will be put into your instruction.

I chose figure 7.8 on page 97, which is an example of the Tea Party method for assessing prior knowledge. This strategy allows the students to do many things such as have discussions with each other, predict using the evidence provided to determine what the sentences meant in the text and acts as a nice prereading activity so students have a chance to consider parts of the text before reading. I believe that with the percentage of my struggling readers that this will help them to better comprehend the text. I want to use this particular method prior to reading informative texts that are foundational to a unit. As a side note in my curriculum I cover the actual Boston Tea Party and that was one thing that also caught my attention about this strategy is the name.

This figure didn't initially stand out to me as I was struggling with how to use it in the math classroom. After reading your post, I went back and reread the examples given and thought that I might use this when introducing a new topic. It would be extremely helpful to know how much my students already know about certain subjects as well as particular math content.
