Go to the Figures pgs. vi - viii and choose one figure that you will use in your instruction.  Describe the what, why, and how this figure is important and will be put into your instruction

While I really like many charts and figures from this book, and will be laminating and reflecting on several, I know that I will use figure 17.3 on page 294. This figure are smart words that help students discuss fiction. My 5th grade students always struggle discussing fiction books. They can list characters, theme, and plot, but not actually describe them. I believe that most of their vocabulary and communication skills are weak and need to be taught. I will be making copies of this chart and have them glue it in their reading journals. I will encourage students to reflect on the chart and use the vocabulary in their responses to me and their peers. This should help in their vocabulary, writing, and communication skills.

Like many other people, I could have listed many other figures that I would like to use. This I can easily use and practice with students because the only prep I have to do I make copies - easy and an obtainable goal!
