I chose Option 3: Go to the Figures pgs. vi - viii and choose one figure that you will use in your instruction. Describe the what, why, and how this figure is important and will be put into your instruction.
The figure I will use in my instruction is Figure 9.12 Three Big Questions on Sticky Notes. Although this figure poses questions related to a book or passage, I will tailor it to my math curriculum in the following ways: pose a starter question, ask a question to stimulate mathematical thinking, and ask an assessment question.
Example one: Word Problems
The three big questions that I might use:
1. What is this situation about?
2. What can be counted or measured?
3. What are some ways we might solve this?

2. Can you see a pattern?
3. What made you decide to do it that way?
This could be used as an individual or partner/group activity and can promote higher levels of thinking.
