Our children need to have their confidence built up and the best way is to have them practice, practice, and practice. So when I take my groups and read to them  I will read a word wrong and see if they notice.  If they don't I will question it and show them how I fixed it by reading it over to make it sound right. I feel that this is good for them because it shows that even adults make mistakes. I believe that any type of modeling will help our children, you just need to find the right one for each child.  I feel that they struggle so much because they do not have their sounds learned.  When I was in school, many years ago, I do not remember learning sounds, we had a list of 25 words every week and had a test on them every Friday.  All of my words became sight words. I grew up not pronouncing my words correctly so I did not spell them correctly.

What stood out to me is the idea of decoding x oral language comprehension = reading comprehension. When they put it into terms 1 x 1 = 1, 1 x 0 = 0, and 0 x 1 = 0, it really stood out for me. This is so true that Decoding is very important.  I also enjoyed looking at the Skilled and Less Skilled Readers.  As I go through the list I see myself on both sides.

When it comes to what types of skills are important to become good readers or even just to read are the following:  Phonological and Phonemic Awareness, Decoding, Fluency, Comprehension Skills, and Text Comprehension.
